Dollars & Sense of Web Analytics (03 Oct 2005)
Even today, there is a fascination with the number of hits generated by a Web server. One can only assume it is the lack of understanding of what a hit is that keeps interest in this measurement alive. Modern Web pages are composed of multiple elements, including external CSS, graphics, external JavaScript, Java applets, etc. When a page is requested, it generates a hit for each linked element in the access log. Many pages generate 10 or more hits. If you just want to increase your hits, simply add a graphic to the footer.
