The Pavilion: Into The 21st Century - A Laboratory for Social Experimentation (01 Jul 2004)
Pavilion 21 expands on the premises of the original Pepsi Pavilion by extending viewer interaction with the artwork into virtual space. This capability builds on the collective nature of the original concept – in which the audience is freely encouraged to participate by shaping its own experience – by distributing the experience of creative expression and the inherent social interaction across the network of the Internet. The phenomenon of bridging the physical space of the installation with the distributed medium of the Internet dissolves the distinction between local and virtual viewer. As a result, the demarcation between physical and virtual space, between on-line and local proximity, converges, bluring into a shared participatory experience based on sound and image that heightens our attention to its spatial and transformational quality.
